This 1960 Gibson ES-335 is an early example of Gibson’s semi-hollow design, featuring a laminated maple body with center block construction and a pair of double black PAF humbuckers - finished in a vibrant three-tone sunburst. The pickups deliver that timeless warm, open response with a strong midrange character and clear top end, pairing especially well with the guitar’s naturally resonant body. This example retains the classic early dot-neck appointments and has a notably clean overall appearance for its age, with a 60s neck carve more akin to a meatier late '59. Worthy of note is the presence of a thin veneer strip on the back of the headstock. There is high likelihood this was done at the factory, either to cover up a flaw in the wood, or maybe some misplaced tuner holes - along with overspray to the neck up to roughly the 12th fret. Additionally, it has benefitted from a professional refret. Replacement Kluson tuners have been installed, fitting the guitar appropriately while maintaining the period-correct look. The Sunburst finish retains strong color, and the lightly aged hardware and plastics give the instrument a well-kept, finely aged look. A lively early ES-335 with the kind of balance and responsiveness that has kept these 1960 examples in such high regard.
Includes Gator TSA case and original 5 latch brown Lifton case, along hang tags, instruction leaflets, NOS strings, and a tag dated August 1960 (when the original owner took the guitar in for adjustment). Note: Additional shipping to be charged for the extra case.
