This 1952 Martin D-18 comes from a period when the model had fully settled into its postwar identity, pairing mahogany back and sides with a spruce top for the dry, direct response that made the D-18 a staple of bluegrass, folk, and early country recordings throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Working players have long gravitated towards D-18s for their balance, strong fundamental tone, and relatively understated construction compared to their rosewood counterparts. The guitar has undergone a substantial amount of professional restoration work over time, including a neck reset, refret, bridge reglue, replacement bridge plate, replacement saddle, several reglued braces, and repair of several cracks throughout the body. There is also a large repaired bottom rim crack on the treble side secured internally with three maple cleats, along with a refinished body and ramped bridge slots. Despite the work, it retains the dry, woody character that keeps early-’50s D-18s in steady demand among players drawn to older Martins with a more open and broken-in response. A strap button has been added for practicality, and the guitar remains structurally sound following the completed repairs.
Includes 80s Martin hard shell case.
