The mid-90s Chieftain is the quintessential Matchless amp, built during the Mark Sampson era— which is especially striking in its hallmark red and grey covering. Featuring a Vox-style design, the added Master volume control is a highly useful feature, allowing you to achieve great tone at more manageable volumes. The majority of these amps were offered as a head or 2x12 format, making this 2x10 model a rare configuration.
The Chieftain can be thought of as the "flagship" of the early Matchless line. While most of their brand has been built on a more simplified format, the Chieftain features both reverb and an effects loop, giving it more versatility. The sound, and build quality of these amps rank among the finest examples of amplification throughout history.
This amp is in fabulous condition for its age, with only minor signs of previous wear, mostly confined to the left-facing side.
