McClanahan Loretto Prototype 2 "Doris" 2019, Sunburst

This 2019 McClanahan Loretto Prototype 2, “Doris,” was hand-crafted by master luthier Jonathan McClanahan as one of two prototypes for the Loretto model. The mandolin combines a West Virginia Red Spruce top with figured Maple, Ebony, and a three-piece Maple and Ebony neck, all brought together with the ornate F-style construction McClanahan is known for. A number of custom details, including S-holes, engraved tailpiece, pearl inlay, gold Waverly tuners, and tortoise binding, give the instrument a distinctly personal look. The oil varnish finish adds a warm, traditional appearance, while the “Doris” name on the truss rod cover and the interior inscription tie this particular mandolin to its original commission for CJ Lewandowski.
