This Santa Cruz D-262 TR is a living piece of bluegrass history, personally owned and used by legend of the genre, Tony Rice. Santa Cruz built this example in conjunction with Rice in 1993, and he used it for a two year period until selling it in 1995. It was featured on Rice's record "Bluegrass Album Band Vol. 6" along with his legendary 1935 Martin D-28. However, Rice "defies the listener to distinguish one guitar from the other" in the included provenance.
Aside from the association with Rice, the guitar stands out as an exceptional build. The body is made of Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and pairs beautifully with the German spruce top featuring Rice's signature enlarged sound hole for powerful, explosive tone. The neck is exceptionally slim for lightning fast playability and comfortable with a nice "V" shape. The herringbone binding and rosette along with the SCGC logo offer an understated elegance to this beautiful instrument. Cosmetically, it remains in excellent shape with only minor player wear, and as far as repair and modifications there has been some light fret work and our in-house repair team recently installed a new saddle.
Whether you're a fan of Rice's indisputable flatpicking, or searching for a bluegrass cannon to hold on to the rest of your days, this guitar stands out.
Includes TKL hard shell case, a binder featuring a handwritten note from Rice himself and a DVD featuring Rice and his guitar on the cover.
