This 2018 Fender Custom Shop Bass VI Journeyman Relic revisits one of the more unconventional instruments to emerge from Fender's early 1960s catalog. Tuned an octave below a standard guitar and equipped with six strings, the Bass VI occupies a space between traditional electric guitar and bass designs while maintaining a character all its own. Finished in Aged Dakota Red, this Custom Shop example pairs the model's distinctive format with a lightly aged relic treatment.
The Bass VI found renewed interest in recent decades as musicians continued to explore its unique range and voice, and Fender's Custom Shop has remained one of the few places producing highly detailed recreations of the original concept. This example remains in very good condition with its tasteful factory aging. The offset body, floating tremolo, and trio of single-coil pickups retain the features that made the Bass VI such an intriguing departure from Fender's more familiar offerings.
