The Johnny Smith model has always occupied its own quiet corner of the Gibson catalog — a fully hollow, thinline archtop designed in close collaboration with the jazz guitarist of the same name, built for a specific kind of clean, articulate tone that you don't get from a thicker body or a fixed pickup. This 1976 example comes in sunburst and is in very good shape overall, with just some light checking in the finish and minor wear on the volume knob to note. The floating humbucker, ebony fingerboard, and carved spruce top are all present and correct, and the guitar plays and sounds exactly like it should.
