This 1928 Gibson L-3, once owned and played by Les Paul during his early career as "Rhubarb Red," is a deeply historic instrument with unmistakable character and provenance. The guitar shows significant signs of age and use, with a missing pickguard and missing bass-side fingerboard binding. There are a few cracks on the heel and body sides, as well as a slight refinished area around the neck joint and heel. The top also shows a few small holes on the lower bass bout side from heavy play and wear. Still, the original bridge, tailpiece, frets, and tuners remain intact, and it comes with exceptional documentation, including the Julien’s Auctions Les Paul book and multiple magazine issues featuring Les on the cover. A rare and meaningful piece that reflects both a pivotal era in Les Paul's early musical life and his devotion to the Gibson brand. Comes with a HSC, Showcase, photos, and COA.
