Gibson Les Paul Special 1957, TV Yellow

There's nothing quite like a 1957 Les Paul Special in TV Yellow, and this one doesn't disappoint. The single-cut slab-mahogany sibling to the Goldtop and Junior, built the same year as Gibson's very first PAF humbuckers and still running dual P-90s for that raw, biting single-coil snarl. At 6.8 lbs, this one is genuinely feather-light in hand, and that neck is the kind you don't want to put down. Giving full and substantial feel at .92" to 1.02" deep, but shaped in a way that just feels right, the sort of thing photos and spec sheets can't fully capture. The frets are original and worn low, so it plays honestly for its age rather than pretending otherwise; budget for a refret and this becomes an even better everyday guitar. Everything else under the hood is stock, with both P-90s reading right where you want them and a genuine Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Sixty-plus years in, it presents in exceptionally fine shape with only light playing wear, and it comes home in its original chipboard case, tuners aside. This is about as honest and clean as a nearly-70-year-old Special gets; low frets and all, it's ready for someone to pick up and fall in love with immediately.
